Job Description

NASCAR seeks a talented professional to join in the position of Director, Analytics and Insights based in our Charlotte office.

  

The Director, Analytics and Insights assists the Vice President, Analytics & Insights in managing the department and performs a critical cross-functional role within the Analytics & Insights department.

 

As a valued resource for the NASCAR industry, the A&I team manages the measurement and analytics of data across broad and varied verticals including: social and digital media, broadcast, traditional consumer and category research, fan engagement, and sponsorship valuation. The A&I team cultivates insights and then provides strategic guidance across a range of different business channels. Specifically, cross-platform data analysis helps the entire NASCAR ecosystem glean more meaningful insights related to fan consumption patterns, social and digital engagement, sponsorship activation efficacy, and ROI best practices. 

 

This role will manage various projects that include cross consumption analysis, sponsorship ROI measurement, fan behaviors analysis, and developing insights to drive more confident decision making across the complex NASCAR ecosystem. We are looking for a strategic and analytical thinker: someone who is detail oriented, but also able to see the “big picture.”

 

Duties include, but are not limited to:

 

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • An analytical and strategic thinker who has a business mind and a passion for sports
  • An interest in being a data junkie who is comfortable structuring complex problems and taking accountability for results
  • A technically-minded individual who is comfortable utilizing tools to interrogate numbers when needed with ability to articulate and develop meaningful insights, and create data visualization
  • Knowledge of the sports media landscape would be preferred, but not required
  • Someone who has experience managing multiple projects with challenging deadlines simultaneously, both while collaborating with peers and working independently
  • Working with leadership to effectively structure and resource projects
  • Support a range of stakeholders - including Executives, Partnership Marketing, Business Development, and Industry Services - in their top priority projects relating to research and analytics
  • Providing analytical leadership for assigned projects, with ultimate accountability for the quality, accuracy, and timeliness of client deliverables
  • Presenting reports, recommendations, and the business implications of the analysis to leadership and stakeholders
  • Identifying and pursuing opportunities to expand existing relationships
  • Manage a range of short- and long-term strategic projects directly for the Vice President, Analytics & Insights
  • Develop expertise - and manage projects - focused on proving Sponsorship Valuation and Sponsorship ROI in the complicated NASCAR ecosystem
  • Oversee budgeting process for Department
  • Gather and integrate data from various internal and external sources, define and complete correlations, identify insights from the analysis, and work with leadership to determine action plans based on the insights
  • Apply various data modelling techniques to uncover trends, build propensity models and ultimately deliver actionable insights that directly support desired business outcomes and objectives (i.e. A/B Testing)
  • Stay on top of the latest innovations in big data, data storage and analytics and integrate them when appropriate
  • Support Strategic Planning process (one-time annual process); special focus will be on developing specific company-wide performance metrics and enforcing a KPI culture
  • Develop materials and presentations to be used in senior management and industry-wide meetings
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, to a broad range of internal and external constituents
  • Focus on developing relationships at all levels across the organization and within the industry
  • Approximate travel required 30%, including some weekend travel

 

Qualifications include the following:

 

5+ years’ of relevant research, data analysis, management consulting and/or media planning experience

Excellent numeric communication skills, including advanced PowerPoint skills

Extensive training in Microsoft Excel

Experience working consultatively with clients or cross-functional teams to understand their needs, identify opportunities, and successfully pitching and delivering solutions

Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, with accountability for results

Comfort with translating complex data into easily understandable business insights

Strong analytical background with knowledge of sports and/or media business landscape desirable 

 

Creative-thinker

Strong leadership and presentation skills

Strong quantitative, financial and modeling skills

Flexible to adapt to a dynamic industry environment

Able to work on highly sensitive projects

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

 Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university and five (5) to eight (8) years related experience in consulting, a media agency, a league, or similar; experience from top-tier company/firm(s) preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience. MBA preferred.
