Job Description

NASCAR seeks a talented professional to join our team in the position Design Engineer based in our Concord, NC office. 


Generate ideas, conceptual designs, solid models, surfaces, and engineering drawings for a variety of assignments related to the safety, cost and competition aspects of high performance vehicles.  Collaborate with engineering and competition teams to create and execute design solutions.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.


  • Generate ideas and concepts using hand sketches, and create solid models and engineering drawings.
  • Participate in brainstorming sessions with other employees.
  • Produce body design concepts that are aesthetically pleasing to NASCAR fans, OEMs, and management.
  • Produce solid models and engineering drawings to support other engineering projects and objectives.
  • Produce surface data to generate tooling to produce metal vehicle body stampings and composite vehicle body parts.
  • Generate solid models and surfaces suitable for analysis with finite element analysis (FEA) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD).
  • Formulate, design, and coordinate fabrication of inspection fixtures, prototype components, and test components.
  • Coordinate and communicate with external suppliers related to various projects.
  • Manage NASCAR's solid model and engineering drawing collection.
  • Assist others with fabrication, organization and special projects when necessary.
  • Approximate travel 10%, including weekends.


Minimum of Bachelors of Science Degree in mechanical engineering.  The ideal candidate would have experience in the use of Computer Aided Design software (Creo Parametric strongly preferred).
