    Job Description

    NASCAR is seeking a Senior Accountant that will be responsible for general ledger functions, including but not limited to month end close, journal entries, general ledger research, chart of accounts maintenance and performance of consolidation activities for financial statement close.    Provides analysis, reporting and documentation for external audit procedures and other regulatory compliance matters. 

     

    Duties include, but not limited to:

    Managing month end close process - prepares journal entries, balance sheet account reconciliations and other analysis as assigned, researches account balances and oversees compliance of account reconciliations.  Areas of responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    • Recognition and deferral of revenues and expenses in accordance with GAAP
    • Calculations or analysis to facilitate month end entries
    • Expense accruals
    • Manages insurance reserve and prepaid insurance

     

    Analyzes variances  over assigned accounts and provides explanations and proposed solutions

     

    Responsible for completion of assigned month-end reporting and developing new reporting as requested. 

     

    Performs analysis and other assessments related to the preparation of financial statements.

     

    Manages chart of accounts for general ledger, concur system and travel reservation system.  Includes continual training on account segment combination guidelines and communication of updates to larger functional group.

     

     Prepares government census reports and various other regulatory compliance reporting as assigned.

     

     Obtains and reviews required support schedules for annual audits.

     

    Handles special projects, ad hoc reporting and analysis as requested.  Identifies and drives improvement opportunities and works closely with Senior Manager, Corporate Accounting to ensure improvement opportunities are implemented to provide timely and accurate information.

     

    Travel may be required on occasion for this role.

     

    QUALIFICATIONS

     

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

    • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a four (4) year college or university
    • Five (5) years of related accounting experience and/or training.

     

    OTHER SKILLS

    • Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles; expereince with consolidations and eliminations is a plus
    • Able to identify accounting issues and generate reasonable solutions
    • Microsoft Excel power user
    • Able to work independently but also collaborate as part of a team
    • Strong organizational and time management skills with ability to manage tight deadlines
    • Exceptional attention to details
    • Must maintain a positive attitude and work ethic.
